The Face Behind the Fur: About LMU Goldens
Hi, I’m Letisha, the heart behind LMU Goldens. My passion for dogs runs deep; it’s something that’s been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up surrounded by dogs, as my mother bred and showed Cocker Spaniels. From an early age, I learned about dedication, care, and what it means to truly love and respect our four-legged family members.
Later in life, I was introduced to the world of English Bulldogs and began my first breeding experiences with their unique charm. Thanks to my first mentor, Lauren, I learned many valuable lessons, and I’ll always be grateful for her guidance.
But it was the Golden Retriever; a breed full of heart, loyalty, and that unforgettable Golden smile, that truly captured my soul. My Goldens are not just part of my program; they’re part of my family. Whether retired or active in the program, they are loved unconditionally and always will be.
How LMU Goldens Has Grown
When I first began breeding, I’ll admit, I didn’t know everything I know today. I didn’t fully understand all the health testing requirements, or that it was best to wait until a dog was over two years old before breeding. I was doing my best with the knowledge I had, following guidance that reflected a different time and approach.
As I learned more through experience, research, and collaboration with veterinarians, specialists, and fellow breeders, I realized I could do better. And that’s exactly what I’ve done.
Here’s how LMU Goldens has grown over time:
🐾 Health-First Breeding
All my breeding dogs are at least 2 years old and fully health-tested.
Testing includes OFA hips, elbows, eyes, heart, and DNA panels for inherited conditions.
I make hard decisions when necessary to protect the future of the breed.
🐾 Thoughtful Pairings
I select pairings based on health, temperament, and structure, not just looks or pedigree.
Every litter is carefully planned with the future family and the breed’s integrity in mind.
🐾 Focused Puppy Development
My puppies are raised with early neurological stimulation and positive exposure to sounds, textures, and experiences.
I prioritize confident, well-rounded puppies ready to thrive in any loving home.
🐾 Transparency and Support
Families receive honest information about their puppy’s background, health, and care.
My commitment doesn’t end at adoption; I’m here for the life of your puppy.
🐾 A Promise to Keep Learning
What was acceptable when I was young isn’t always okay today, and what’s okay today may not be enough tomorrow. That’s why I continue to learn, adapt, and grow. I attend seminars, stay current on research, and connect with experts to ensure I’m always doing better for my dogs and their puppies.
Looking Ahead
LMU Goldens is more than a breeding program; it’s my heart, my passion, and my promise to always do right by these incredible dogs. I am deeply grateful for the mentors, friends, veterinarians, and families who have supported me along the way. And most of all, I am thankful for my dogs, who inspire me to be better every single day.
💛 Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and LMU Goldens.
